Save on Groceries: Don’t Let Stocking Up Cost You Money

I have recently changed my shopping habits, as I was an avid once-a-month grocery shopper. Overtime, I started to realize all the food I had acquired and not yet used. In fact, I was devastated to learn that some items in my cupboard had expired.

I am a firm believer in stocking up when you have coupons and find good sales. I usually start out small and buy two or three packages of something. This is good, but it is important to remember what you have. In the back of my cupboard, I found 5 packages of Hamburger Helper (lol in addition to the 4 in the front). Unfortunately, 3 of those packages expired months earlier. I had to throw them away and felt like I was tossing money in the garbage.

If you want to stock-up on groceries to save money, keep a close eye on expiration dates. Every couple of months, I recommend pulling all food out of your cupboards to check expiration dates. Toss expired food and place items with upcoming expiration dates in the front so that you will remember to use them soon. This way, stocking up saves you money like it was intended to do.
